Living Things
Bodies are brief alchemical changes in the land. While the body is alive land’s presence recedes under the pressure of a living breathing identity; but when animal presence retreats and the body’s roundness seeps back into the ground, from the ground something else seeps back and fills up the empty space left by life and flesh. The body becomes something altogether different, neither earth nor living thing: a concentration of the land’s inhuman life that inhabits the body like a grotesque spirit until both disperse under the pressure of external space.
